19 National Dog-Friendly Stores

Here is the ultimate list of national stores that are dog friendly! Petco and Petsmart were left off in favor of stores with slightly more obscure dog policies (but don’t worry! you can still bring your dog into them!)

*Note: Many stores leave it up to the manager to decide whether their store allows dogs or not, not all of these stores will allow dogs. The best way to ensure you can bring your pooch inside is to call ahead and find out the specific store’s policy. In addition, please be respectful to service dogs and do not bring your pups to stores that are not dog- friendly.

Let’s stop the killing, Tallahassee

Susan Ledford, Tallahassee Democrat

September 12, 2014

I can’t remember exactly how old I was when I discovered that not all the animals at shelters found homes, but I was probably a teenager. My parents, both ardent protectors of animals, shielded my from that disturbing news for as long as they could.

The thought of puppies, kittens and cats being killed causes my soul to ache. There must be a better solution.

Pet Adoption Walk

Move.Tallahassee.com walkers and animal lovers trekked from the Los Robles Animal Hospital on Thomasville road to the Naturally Healthy Pet Store to show off adoptable dogs (and a cat) on Saturday morning. Jack Cory, who runs Tallahassee Pets Alive, led the walkers on the one mile journey to get the word out that these dogs and cat are available for adoption.

Pets are Family, but during financially tough times, the family pet is often a second priority in order to feed the rest of the family. Our mission is to keep families and their pets together through trying times!

What’s New At TPA!

We have some great news! Tallahassee Pets Alive! has partnered with Fix-Tallahassee, a local advocacy group working to decrease shelter killing at the Tallahassee/Leon Community Animal Services Center. With the increase in Florida cities and counties adopting the No-Kill resolution, we feel this is the time to press for shelter reform here in Tallahassee.

While Fix-Tallahassee works toward this goal, we have decided that rather than helping a few pets by rushing the launch of our programs, we can save more lives by first helping to create a safe shelter. This will also give us the chance to put in place a strong infrastructure. Building a large volunteer base and establishing sustainable resources and funding will ensure the success of our supportive programs.

Please help and support our friends at Fix-Tallahassee.  If you live in Leon County, come join the campaign.  There will be lots of things for everyone to do.  Tabling events are being planned to begin immediately, petitions to be signed, letters to be written, commission meeting to attend. There will be something for everyone, and the animals of Leon County need your help!  Whether you are an animal lover, concerned citizen, or poli-sci student, Fix-Tallahassee needs your help. Change doesn’t just happen! It takes the involvement and effort of people that care.  It is YOUR shelter, paid for with YOUR tax dollars, and you have not only the right but also the responsibility to insure your money is spent efficiently.

A Fix-Tallahassee facebook page has just been started. Please “Like” and “Share” with everyone!
